Food & Wine is my passion – and luckily also my job.
Add to this my love of great rugby – and the idea for a Food & Wine pairing website was born over a pint of Guinness for some and a glass of Argentinian Malbec for me at Twickenham. If you’ve ever wondered about what wine you should – or even better – could! – pair with various foods – then Love Wine Food will give you with a wide range of suggestions from around the World to tempt and experiment with.
If you’ve bought some pheasant and no idea what wine to drink with it – or you’ve been given a heavenly bottle of Barbaresco and want to find the best recipe to show it off – you’ve come to the right place! If you’d like to get in touch , I’d love to hear from you! Do take a look at our range of Wine Tours for 2026 And my book Watercress, Willow & Wine, a celebration of recipes and wines from English vineyards is now released and available to order now.

WFH lunch. Bought bunch of carrots at local market yesterday, simply due to the frondy tops!
Made sort of pesto / gremolata of them with lots of lemon zest & garlic.
Warmed some lentils, added shavings of the actual carrots, tossed with punchy wasabi dressing. Topped with Serrano ham, barrel aged feta and the carrot top whatever it identifies as.
Delish.

After so many days of heat, a glorious early morning blustery walk on the beach.
Ever changing skies.
All shades from silver grey to sailors blue.
Clouds of all formations from Elijah rays to Winnie the Pooh rain clouds.
Happy horses in the surf.
Dogs of all size and varying obedience chasing sticks.
Kite surfing, wind surfers.
Just a few happy people enjoying being blown around, soaking up the Vitamin Sea before the Bank Holiday mass arrive.

So very sad to leave the Sea Cloud II this morning after a heavenly, relaxing time on board, sailing from Venice along the Croatian Coast.
But made some great new friends, with much laughter along the way, not to mention being incredibly well looked after by the fabulous crew. Add in delicious food and irresistible evening cocktails. Early mornings on deck watching the sunrise. Bliss.
Was utter heaven to be back on board Sea Cloud again. Roll on next time (exciting new tour on the horizon!).

Many aspects of life on board a sailing ship are wonderful, but none more so than being up on deck for sunrise. The swiftly ever changing colours of the sky. This morning over Hvar, more muted shades. But mug of Earl Grey in hand, just a sole crew member up & about on deck besides me. Listening to the water lapping against the hull whilst the ship is at anchor in this beautiful Croatian bay.
Peace. Serenity. Calm.

Anarchy in the South Downs indeed! Opened a bottle last night of "Never mind the Gamay" from the brilliant @sugruesouthdowns
Their Pinot Meunier grapes from Kent were so super ripe in 2025, that they made a still red wine with the fruit (whole bunch fermented).
Added to that a splash of Gamay grapes from their Alpaca Block in the South Downs.
Result? Well I served it slightly chilled, and it was GLORIOUS!! Crunch of cranberries & redcurrant, LOTS of mouthwatering juicy red fruits, with touch of spice right at the end. I often drink chilled light bodied Loire reds in the summer. And this is an awesome alternative in a similar estival style. So pleased to see England producing these delectable still reds. Bravo to Dermot & Ana!
Only 3000 bottles produced, so get your paws on some soon! Know I`ll be placing another order as that bottle disappeared rather nicely! Enjoyed with a relaxed Saturday supper at home of lamb & mint burgers, topped with homemade tzatziki (heavy on the garlic) & griddled halloumi.

Having one`s beautiful niece over for supper, so ransacked the wine rack for something to extend her wine education, and as she had never tried Lebanese wine, it had to be a bottle of classic Chateau Musar.
2004 vintage (as seen by the dusty bottle!!) , so was delightful to see it`s evolution. Lots of tertiary aromas of dried fruit, leather and garrigue. Truly lovely to share a mature bottle of Musar.
Even more so as was enjoyed with a tomahawk steak from our local butcher, @morganstfbutchers - cooked perfectly by PJ, hovering somewhere between blue & rare. Served with queen black beans from @boldbeanco , roasted @iowtomatoes and finished with a vivid homemade salsa verde (heavy on the mustard & RW vinegar). Wonderful!

Opened bottle of The Cut Chardonnay from by the brilliant team at The Heretics aka Gareth Maxwell and Jimmy Hunter. Made from Crouch Valley (Essex) fruit, fermented in 500 litre Meursault barrels.
It`s so well balanced in the glass that it does not require flowery descriptions - it is just an insanely good wine, really bloody brilliant!
Yes as they say, it`s expensive, but it`s not for every day (sadly) , but worth every one of your hard earned pounds for a special occasion. (My occasion? Cheering me up after a blinking dreadful Thursday, when everything went wrong). It worked, so thanks to @fortheheretics
Label BTW is part of their project to offer young creatives a platform, this one by 22 year old @louixhunter

Digging around in the salad drawer to avoid WFH salad boredom kicking in.
Riff on celeriac remoulade made prettier in pink!
Mandolined the celeriac, added lemon juice, chopped cooked beetroot (could not bring myself to "cube" it, too many thoughts of Bridget Jones dinner party!) , sliced breakfast radishes, circlrs of pink tropea onions. Seasoned with sel de guerande, dressed with couple tablespoons of kefir for some tang, EVOO and sumac.
Delicious (even to this non beetroot lover!)

It was a white Bordeaux kind of weekend. Thanks to the safe arrival of a mixed case ordered whilst I was in Bordeaux a few weeks ago , at the fabulous L`Intendant wine shop!
Tertre Blanc 24; a glorious melange of grape varieties, Chardonnay. Sauv Blanc, Viognier & Gros Manseng. Beautifully balanced between ripe white peaches and citrus notes. Although property is in Margaux, listed as a Vin de France due to unusual varieties for the appellation.
Le Blanc d`Aiguilhe 23; from the stables of Comtes von Neipperg, at their Castillon property. Mono varietal Sauvignon Blanc. Zingy grapefruit, tangerines with nice salty tang on the finish.
Chateau Malartic Lagraviere 23; Graves appellation property owned by the Bonnie family. 80% Sauv Blanc / 20% Semillon giving a Bordeaux Blanc with character. White flowers, acacia, with a backbone of lovely minerality. The 50% new oak was too dominant at first taste, but left to its own devices in a decanter for an hour, and unfurled into a v attractive wine.
Chateau Le Grand Verdus Grande Reserve 22; Out of the four, the only estate not tasted before. Mono varietal Semillon with all the personality this variety brings, from 70 yr old vines. Nice notes of roasted apples with hint of spice.

Polished, smooth, understated perfection for lunch at Sartoria in Savile Row, London yesterday.
Memorable meals as this are never just about the food. Beautiful fine glassware, immaculate snow white linen, attentive yet not invasive service (grazie Leonardo). Sartoria understands this totally.
The food of course waa also delicious from light, squidgy focaccia, through to starters - on other side of the table, culatello with melon, a heavenly combo of salty & super sweet. My choice of tuna tartare, cubes of tuna with datterini tomatoes, aubergine mousse & a piquant caper dressing.
Highlight of the day had to be the most perfectly cooked vitello milanese, served on the bone, to share. "Simple" dishes are often the hardest to execute well, as nowhere to hide. This was pure benchmark perfection.
A bottle of charming Timorasso from Vietti in Piemonte, glorious fresh notes of pear, leading into slight honey & sage on the palate.
Heavenly Italian lunch in the heart of London.

Saddened to hear of the death of Franco Bernabei. A real star of the Italian wine world (and all round nice chap!) who was responsible for showing the world what great quality could be achieved with Italian wines.
His skill with Sangiovese was unequalled, and from my early days in the wine trade, discovering the wines he worked with at Selvapiana, Felsina and Fontodi in particular - memorable and certainly shaped my view and understanding of quality Tuscan wines.
Prayers with his family, and many friends but a large glass of Bucerchiale to be had this weekend in his honour.
